Amazon Insects

In 2006, I journeyed into the heart of the Amazon jungle with my father and sister, both scientists. My own background is biology as well as art, and we all share a great love of natural history. We traveled up the Rio Negro on a tiny riverboat, going on daily and nightly excursions by canoe into the flooded jungle canopy. We spotted pink dolphins, caimen, exotic birds, butterflies and other creatures while enveloped in the cacophony of jungle insects, frogs and howler monkeys. This fantastic trip inspired six months of small watercolors for a diary, and culminated in several large natural history-themed paintings. The first was “Amazon Insects”.
