I received a very unusual invitation recently! The curator of Archaelological Records asked me to participate in creating a bestiary of animals of the Parco Naturale dei Monti Lucretilli, near Rome, Italy. Seventy artists worldwide were invited to take part in the project, which supports “L’Aquila Reale: Art and Nature Center of Civitella di Licenza” (https://laquilarealelicenza.org/). An exhibit of the artwork will be at a museum in Civitella as well as in the Orsini Castle in the village of Licenza. The creature I chose was a female stag beetle, Lucanus cervus. The resulting mixed water media painting is 16×20 on paper. Soon she will be on her way to Rome!
