After much deliberation, I’ve decided that the Resplendant Forester butterfly, Bebearia sp., will be the subject of my next watercolor. It may be just the first of a new butterfly series, however, as there are several different ones I would love to paint. This particular butterfly is rather new to science, as it was discovered in Ghana in 2012. There are about 95 Bebearia species, all of which are Afrotropical in distribution. The image here is a photograph, not my painting. So far, I’ve just put a light sketch onto the stretched paper.
