Digital Art
Medusa’s Realm at Sunset is a digitally-created dragon fantasy landscape. It is composed of innumerable bits of my travel photos plus watercolor butterfly paintings, and each individual element is digitally painted or otherwise altered. In creating this piece, I felt a story, myth or fairytale forming without words. The image contains overt and subtle references to metamorphosis. Butterflies, of course, are the quintessential examples of metamorphosis. Medusa herself transforms living things to stone. Both the Angel and the Maiden (beneath the bridge) are stone, but with elements of human flesh beginning to show through. There is a story here, and the Dragon, Angel, Butterflies, Maiden, Medusa and Red Frog are all characters. However, I leave the plot and meaning to the viewer’s imagination.
“Medusa’s Realm at Sunset” is in my Shop in the Prints, Gifts, Decor category. You can order the image on all sorts of things. I love the way it looks printed on aluminum, which is under “wall art”.
Medus’a Realm at Sunset won an award in the “Metamorphosis” juried members’ exhibit at Marin Museum of Contemporary Art in January 2015.
