Wings of Utopia
I love painting butterflies, and they have appeared in my art all my life. I wanted to create a few large paintings that featured a great variety of colorful butterflies, and the “Wings” series is the result. Wings of Utopia was the first in the series of butterfly paintings. Whether in watercolor, pastels or oil pastels, they all depict real butterfly species. In each of these pieces, butterfly and moth wings are enlarged and arranged in overlapping layers so that no background shows through. Usually sections of wings are visible, rather than entire butterflies, and this is reflected in the title I chose for the series.
