The second butterfly in the new series is Precis octavia, or Gaudy Commodore. This African butterfly exhibits two very different color forms – red and black in summer and blue, black and red in winter. I’ve chosen to paint the winter form. This is a species of the Nymphalidae family, as is the Agrias claudina shown in the last posting.
