19×25 pastel
Autumn Flames was inspired by the beautiful autumn leaves I saw all around me on the East Coast years ago. I hoped to capture some of that wonderful seasonal color in a painting, and so collected and saved a bag full of maple leaves. When I got around to opening the bag to start a painting, however, all the leaves had turned brown and crisp – no more color! It was too late to collect more, so I decided to paint (with pastels) how the autumn colors made me feel. This was my first abstract painting, and has remained one of my favorites.
