This watercolor of butterflies is a study in monochramatic design. That is, the color scheme is just one hue (red) plus black and white. I did do some mixing of black and red to achieve a bit of gradation and shading. No white pigment is used however, as the white areas are the blank watercolor paper. To make colored areas lighter, I just had to use more water with the paint.
